ADRIREC (ADRION program)

Project description

Project name: ADRIatic ports for Renewable Energy Communities

EU Program: Interreg IPA Adriatic Ionian ADRION

Program priority: Carbon neutral and better connected Adriatic-Ionian region

Lead partner: Eastern Adriatic Port Authority Network (Italy)

Project duration: 36 months

Project budget: 1,562,938.20

IPAII co-financing: 1,328,497.47

ADRIREC aims to encourage the clean energy transition of ADRION port by harnessing the potential of renewable energy sources by applying the innovative concept of energy communities, reducing CO2 emissions, improving air quality and increasing energy efficiency. Through the ADRIREC project, the ADRION ports will be enriched with new solutions in the fight against climate change, and the citizens themselves will benefit from cleaner air.

ADRIREC intends to respond to the above-mentioned challenges through the joint strengthening of institutional and operational capacity building in relation to the key issue of the transition of the region's ports to clean energy. This will be achieved by improving planning skills and competencies. First, the partners will develop a unique toolkit that will guide ADRION ports towards adopting and transitioning to acceptable renewable energy sources at each location, based on current and future energy needs. This tool will be available on the project website and will be replicated in the future in a wider geographic context.
